HOLLYWOOD -- Fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story clothing store in Hollywood early Thursday.
The greater alarm fire at 1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd. was reported at 12:26 a.m., and firefighters extinguished it in 55 minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.
The building appeared to be an Alife clothing store, which sells high-end urban wear.
T-shirts and other items of clothing had been stacked on metal racks in the room where the blaze broke out. There were also piles of garments on the first floor, but these did not catch fire.
Firefighters say the building was insulated with materials usually used for sound-proofing, which made it difficult to fight the fire.
Despite all the flammable material, the blaze was "confined to the building of origin," Myers said.
A sprinkler system is credited for keeping the fire from spreading to nearby businesses.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There was no immediate word on the extent of the damage.
Firefighters said the business had recently been remodeled.
